Enter GM Joe

Greetings. I am GM Joe, and only because Josh tells me DM is out-of-date. I'm a more laid-back GM- I tend to bend the rules a bit to let my players do things they'd really like to do, but I also keep players in check via some rule-bending of my own. Suffice it to say that Pun-Pun wouldn't last long in one of my games. I'm running a larger group than that of Josh's, but at the same time, many of my players are inexperienced or total newbies (I've got two first-time players). Alas, I digress. After the break, I'll first discuss a bit about myself, and then introduce my campaign and player party.
As I said earlier, I'm a bit of a laid-back GM. To expand on that a bit, I tend to let my players do what they want to do at their own pace. While other GM's may tell the players to make a Search check, I make them do it on their own. I only interfere when they're fighting, when rule-breaking's going on, or when they do something relevant, like succeed on said spot check. I plan on only using a grid during drawn out combats, and otherwise allowing the players to use their imaginations; two goblins hiding behind a door is not worth me whipping out the grid and minis and telling the players to roll initiative. Unless one of the goblins crits and kills the wizard. I'm also a lot less serious than a lot of other GM's I know (Sidenote: I just had to go back and edit every time I wrote DM into GM. Damn you, Josh.) and I tend to digress a lot during both writing and speaking. It's not uncommon for joke characters to appear in my games. I feel that first and foremost, D&D is a game, and as long as everyone involved is having a good time, everyone's winning.
On a personal level, I'm kind of a run-of-the-mill geek. I obviously enjoy tabletop roleplaying, and I'm rather a huge anime fan (not an otaku- the word has negative connotations. Look it up.). When I'm not goofing off, I'm pursuing a double major in English and Journalism. It's not much of an introduction, but the blog's about the game, not me.
As stated before, a lot of my players are inexperienced. In fact, only one of my players has gone through more than 3 games before this one. Having said that, I'm quite impressed by the originality and diversity the character concepts I've been given have shown. My players' characters are not quite done yet, and so true character introductions will be done in a later post. However, here's what I have so far:
(Note: As names are constantly being changed at this point in development, I'm simply going to mention their race and class. As I said, more detailed character introductions will be done later, once they're done)

Halfling Rogue: Going for Master Thrower. The most experienced player of the group.

Human Cleric: With the Sun and Moon domains, as well as the Silver Blood feat, this player is a lycanthrope-hunting priest of Lathander and Selune. I plan on modifying some of the encounters to reflect this player's choices. A rather inexperienced at D&D itself, this player has been playing virtual RPG's for a very long time.

Human Chaos Monk: Has a surprise in store for the rest of the party (and our readers) with his choice of Prestige Class. A somewhat inexperienced player who happens to be the sole survivor of my Tomb of Horrors game (which was his first). Playing via Skype video and voice chat with...

Unknown Race Sorcerer: The Chaos Monk's fiancee. Has been playing virtual RPGs for a while and expressed interest in trying D&D. This is her first game.

Human Fighter: This player, in terms of experience, is a lot like our Cleric. He plans on wearing spiked armor and gauntlets to tear his opponents to shreds during grapples. If he can make this work is yet to be seen.

Once Josh posts his game and character introduction, we'll post an introduction to our overarching campaign and to the Sunless Citadel.
